In October 2019, Johannesburg (South Africa) hosted the II Forum of the Association of Rectors of Transport Universities of BRICS (ARTU BRICS), whose participants in their presentations and speeches discussed various aspects of the current state and future prospects for transport development in BRICS countries and in the world. They also discussed professional education in the field of transport in BRICS, outlined plans for further cooperation. Rector of PGUPS, co-chairman of ARTU BRICS Alexander Yu. Panychev put forward a proposal to publish a scientific and practical journal “BRICS Transport”. The proposal was accepted by the forum participants. In the course of further work, the idea was supported by Olga Starykh, Director of the Training and Methodological Centre on Education on Railway Transport. On November 17, 2021, the co-founders of the journal (PGUPS and the Training and Methodological Centre) signed an agreement with the Chief Editor of the journal Irina Skovorodina, which regulated the procedure and conditions for issuing the “BRICS Transport” journal.
